Ketogenic Dieting, safety and necessity

High-fat (low-carbohydrate) diets have caught mainstream attention in ebbs and flows, beginning with Dr. Atkins Diet Revolution in 1972. They have since been proclaimed to be just another “FAD diet” and by ardent believers, “The Holy Grail” of diets. Many, with impaired metabolisms (i.e. hypoglycemics and hypothyroid sufferers) purport that consistent and considerable fat-loss won’t occur for them without severe carbohydrate restriction. I want to be clear that I am not here to choose sides, as there will also be camps and separatism in the world of dietetics and nutrition, but I shall at least like to expound on the scientific data in favor of the ketogenic approach. The safety of this diet-lifestyle, its therapeutic benefits, and effectiveness as a long-term fat-reductive approach will all be adequately touched on.
